APPENDIX B - The Serpent, Personified by Jezebel

Introduction (Motivation, Mission, and Method of Operation):

When Satan said, “I will ascend into heaven,” he was expressing his motivation to take over God’s territory. The Serpent metaphorically represents Satan in his desire to fulfill this motivation, and Jezebel personifies the spirit of the Serpent in the Bible. Eve is the archetype for Jezebel and sorrow is the curse that empowers the Serpent. Murder is the root sin that feeds this motivation. The Serpent wants to murder God and take possession of heaven and all of creation. This has led to open warfare in heaven, and has spilled over to the earth where Satan also wants to be god.

To fulfill his desire to take possession and rule over the earth, the Serpent has created an organization of evil spirits under the command of his lieutenant the Prince of Babylon. The principality of Babylon has been given the power of worldliness and has been assigned the mission to rule over the darkness in individuals. These spiritual hosts of wickedness use their weapons of subtlety, deception, temptation, and seduction to lead mankind into all manner of sin. Their ways are expressed in the world through all forms of witchcraft and wizardry. This has brought Babylon into conflict with the kingdom of God and particularly God’s prophets who cry out for holiness. It is the conflict of self-will versus righteousness.

The Serpent/Jezebel spirits of Babylon commonly use the following method of operation in their warfare against mankind. God has made mankind His heirs by covenant to His oracles, promises, gifts, and to the earth. First this evil alignment of spirits must find a way to destroy the covenant relationship between God and the heir. This is usually accomplished with a subtle deception that leads the heir into sin. Once the covenant relationship is broken and God’s protection is removed, these evil spirits seek to kill the heir by any means available. Then they can steal the inheritance, whether it is a gift of God or sovereignty over a portion of the earth.

I Will Statement: Isaiah 14:13b “I will ascend into heaven.”

Heaven is the place where God dwells and from which He rules over all His creation. When Satan declares, “I will ascend into heaven,” he is declaring his opposition to God and his intent to take over God’s territory. The Serpent moved into God’s territory when he entered the Garden of Eden to tempt Adam and Eve. He will continue to corrupt and destroy God’s creation until he is eternally bound in the lake of fire at the end of the age.

Reptile: Serpent. (For scripture references see Addendum 7 – The Serpent.)

The Serpent is introduced in the Garden of Eden as the subtlest creature in all of creation. He beguiles Eve to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. In effect, this is the first murder recorded in the Bible. It’s like tricking someone into drinking poison. Adam and Eve die immediately in their spirits and eventually die physically because of their sin. For his role in leading Adam and Eve into their original sin, God curses the Serpent and continual enmity is placed between the Serpent and the woman.

Genesis 3:1-6

1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

Genesis 3:13-15

13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

The enmity between the Serpent and the woman continues throughout the present age. In Revelation we see the Serpent seeking to harm the woman who brought forth the man child.

Revelation 12:13-16

13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.

14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.

16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.

The Serpent is equated with the Cockatrice, the Lion (Behemoth), the Dragon, the Devil, and Satan.

Serpent = Cockatrice = Dragon, Isaiah 14:29

29 Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.

Serpent = Lion, Isaiah 65:25

25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD. (See also Amos 5:19.)

Serpent = Dragon = Devil = Satan, Revelation 12:9

9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (See also Rev. 20:2.)

Archetype: Eve. (For Scripture references see Addendum 12 – Jezebel.)

Eve was the first woman named in scripture. She was created by God from a rib taken from Adam's side, she was bone of Adam's bone and flesh of Adam's flesh. Beguiled by the Serpent, Eve was the first to sin by eating of the forbidden fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. In an act very reminiscent of Jezebel and Ahab, Eve then gave the fruit to her husband Adam who very docilely also ate of the fruit.

Genesis 3:1-13

7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

Empowering Curse: Sorrow.

As a punishment for Eve's sin, God places the following curse upon the woman.

Genesis 3:16

16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

This empowering curse provides a legal right for the forces of the Serpent to bedevil unredeemed mankind. It has the following elements:

1. Multiplied sorrow in conception.

2. Sorrow in childbearing.

3. The woman shall desire her husband.

4. Her husband shall rule over her.

All together, this is a curse on the family. There will be problems with the conception and bearing of children. I believe that this goes beyond birth and that under this curse there will be friction between parents and their children throughout their lives. This curse also destroys the intended relationship that Adam and Eve enjoyed in the Garden of Eden and sets up a dysfunctional relationship between the husband and the wife. All of this leads to multiplied sorrow particularly for the woman, who most often by her very nature wants to provide love and nurture to everyone in her home. To sum this curse up in one word, it is a curse of sorrow.

Personification: Jezebel. (For Scripture references see Addendum 12 – Jezebel.) Another personification is the false prophet Balaam.

Jezebel was the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians, and she was the wife of Ahab, king of Israel in Samaria.

1 Kings 16:30-31

30 And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD above all that were before him.

31 And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him.

Jezebel provoked her husband Ahab to do wickedness in the sight of the Lord and to institute Baal worship in Israel. Note: the grove was a place dedicated to the worship of Ashtoreth, the fertility goddess of the Sidonians.

1 Kings 21:25

25 But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

1 Kings 16:32-33

32 And he reared up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.

33 And Ahab made a grove; and Ahab did more to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel that were before him.

Jezebel made herself the mortal enemy of the true prophets of God.

1 Kings 18:3-4

3 And Ahab called Obadiah, which was the governor of his house. (Now Obadiah feared the LORD greatly:

4 For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.) (See also 1 Kings 18:13.)

She threatened to kill Elijah.

1 Kings 19:1-2

1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.

She supported the prophets of Baal and Asherah.

1 Kings 18:19

19 Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel's table.

Jezebel used intrigue, lies, and false witnesses to murder Naboth so her husband Ahab could take his vineyard.

1 Kings 21:1-16

1 And it came to pass after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, hard by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.

2 And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money.

3 And Naboth said to Ahab, The LORD forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto thee.

4 And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

5 But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said unto him, Why is thy spirit so sad, that thou eatest no bread?

6 And he said unto her, Because I spake unto Naboth the Jezreelite, and said unto him, Give me thy vineyard for money; or else, if it please thee, I will give thee another vineyard for it: and he answered, I will not give thee my vineyard.

7 And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel? arise, and eat bread, and let thine heart be merry: I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.

8 So she wrote letters in Ahab's name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters unto the elders and to the nobles that were in his city, dwelling with Naboth.

9 And she wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people:

10 And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.

11 And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who were the inhabitants in his city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them, and as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them.

12 They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people.

13 And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: and the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

14 Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned, and is dead.

15 And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give thee for money: for Naboth is not alive, but dead.

16 And it came to pass, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.

Jezebel’s actions caused God to curse her and Ahab’s entire household.

1 Kings 21:17-24

17 And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

18 Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, which is in Samaria: behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to possess it.

19 And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou killed, and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine.

20 And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.

21 Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy posterity, and will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel,

22 And will make thine house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me to anger, and made Israel to sin.

23 And of Jezebel also spake the LORD, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.

24 Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.

Because Jezebel killed the prophets and practiced witchcraft, Ahab’s household was destroyed.

2 Kings 9:7-10

7 And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel.

8 For the whole house of Ahab shall perish: and I will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel:

9 And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah:

10 And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her. And he opened the door, and fled.

2 Kings 9:22-26

22 And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?

23 And Joram turned his hands, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, There is treachery, O Ahaziah.

24 And Jehu drew a bow with his full strength, and smote Jehoram between his arms, and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot.

25 Then said Jehu to Bidkar his captain, Take up, and cast him in the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite: for remember how that, when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, the LORD laid this burden upon him;

26 Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, saith the LORD; and I will requite thee in this plat, saith the LORD. Now therefore take and cast him into the plat of ground, according to the word of the LORD.

Jezebel was killed by her eunuchs and dogs ate her flesh.

2 Kings 9:30-37

30 And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window.

31 And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Had Zimri peace, who slew his master?

32 And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs.

33 And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down: and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trode her under foot.

34 And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this cursed woman, and bury her: for she is a king's daughter.

35 And they went to bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands.

36 Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the word of the LORD, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel:

37 And the carcase of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel; so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.

Jezebel came to allegorically represent all who have her nature.

Revelation 2:20-23

20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.

22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

Aliases:

Python, Ishtar, Isis, Ashtaroth, Ashtoreth, Astarte, Hera, Diana, Aphrodite, Venus, Gaea, the Goddess, the False Prophet, and all instantiations of the Queen of Heaven. These are only a few of the aliases used throughout the world by the Serpent/Jezebel class of spirits.

Root Sin: Murder.

This root sin of murder can be clearly seen in the following scriptures:

Adam and Eve, Genesis 3:1-6

Naboth, 1 Kings 21:10

10 And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die. (See also 1 Kings 21:13.)

Prophets and Servants of the Lord, 2 Kings 9:7

7 And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel. (See also 1 Kings 18:4, 13.)

Saints and Martyrs, Revelation 17:6

6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

Prophets and Saints, Revelation 18:24

24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

Other Roots: Lying, theft, whoredom, idol worship, adultery, false prophecy, fornication, abominations, filthiness, harlotry, lust, and sorceries.

Lying, Genesis 3:4

4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: (See also 1 Kings 19:10,13.)

Theft, 1 Kings 21:7

7 And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel? arise, and eat bread, and let thine heart be merry: I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite. (See also 1 Kings 21:15.)

Whoredom, 2 Kings 9:22

22 And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many? (See also Revelation 17:1,15,16.)

Idol Worship, Revelation 2:20

20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

Adultery, Revelation 2:22

22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

False Prophesy, Revelation 2:20

20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

Fornication, Revelation 17:2

2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. (See also Revelation 2:20-21, 17:4, and 18:3, 9.)

Abominations, Revelation 17:4

Harlotry, Revelation 17:5

5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

Lust, Revelation 18:14

14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.

Sorceries, Revelation 18:23

23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.

Principality: Babylon.

Babylon was the birthplace of sorcery and the worship of Ishtar (goddess of love and fertility). It therefore had a natural association with Jezebel and the Serpent.

Power: Worldliness (gratification of the desires of the flesh).

We see the motivation to gratify the desires of the flesh behind all that the Serpent/Jezebel spirit does. It is unbridled selfishness. If it looks good to you and you want it, then take it. Even if you have to kill somebody to get it, take it anyway. Let the consequences be damned. It was voiced by the Hippy generation of the 1960’s in the saying, “If it feels good, do it.” Its power can be summed up completely in the word worldliness.

Rules Over Darkness In: Individuals.

As we look through all the scriptures concerning the Serpent/Jezebel spirit, we see that the primary target for its corruption is individuals.

2 Corinthians 11:3

3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Manifests In The World As: Witchcraft.

The seduction and manipulation of the Serpent/Jezebel class of spirits manifests in the world as witchcraft. Though spells, incantations, curses, or conjuring up spirits are never mentioned in connection with Jezebel, her overall career is still summed up as witchcraft.

2 Kings 9:22

22 And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?

Weapons: Subtlety, lies, temptation, guile, threats, manipulation, children of Belial, false witnesses, corruption, seduction, sorcery, and deception.

Subtlety, Genesis 3:1

1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? (See also 2 Corinthians 11:3.)

Lies, Genesis 3:4

4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: (See also 1 Kings 21:10, 13.)

Temptation, Genesis 3:5

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Guile, Genesis 3:13

13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. (See also 2 Corinthians 11:3.)

Threats, 1 Kings 19:2

2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.

Manipulation, 1 Kings 21:8-13

Children of Belial, 1 Kings 21:10, 13

10 And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.

13 And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: and the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

False Witnesses, 1 Kings 21:10, 13

10 And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.

13 And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: and the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

Corruption, 2 Corinthians 11:3

3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Seduction, Revelation 2:20

20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

Sorcery, Revelation 18:23

23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived. (See also Revelation 20:1-3.)

Deception, Revelation 20:1-3

1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. (See also Revelation 18:23.)

Steals, Kills, and Destroys: The Serpent/Jezebel spirit destroys the covenant relationship, kills the heir, and steals the inheritance.

This spirit’s method of operation can be seen again and again in the Bible. We’ll look at four stories: Adam and Eve’s original sin, the Israelites and the daughters of Moab, Naboth’s vineyard, and Jezebel’s murder of the true prophets of God.

The story of Adam and Eve’s original sin is found in the third chapter of Genesis. By covenant, God gave Adam and Eve dominion over all the earth and He placed them in the Garden of Eden to care for it. To fulfill their part of the covenant, Adam and Eve had to refrain from eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The Serpent enticed Eve to eat the forbidden fruit and she gave some to Adam who also ate the fruit, destroying the covenant relationship. This caused the immediate spiritual death and eventual physical death of Adam and Eve, killing the heirs that inherited the world by covenant with God. By this act of murder, the Serpent stole the inheritance, the rule and dominion over all the earth, and became the god of this world.

The story of the Israelites and the daughters of Moab is found in the twenty-second through the twenty-fifth chapters of Numbers. Balaam was hired by Balak, the king of Moab to curse the Israelites while they were wandering in the wilderness. God would not allow Balaam to curse Israel. He only allowed him to bless them. Although not part of the story, we are told elsewhere in scripture that Balaam advised Balak on a method to defeat Israel. His advice was to make the pretty young daughters of Moab available to the young men of Israel, leading them into the sins of fornication and idol worship.

Revelation 2:14

14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

Moab was a part of the land promised to Abraham and sealed by covenant with God. The Israelites were the heirs of the covenant and the Promised Land. Committing fornication with the daughters of Moab and entering into idol worship with them broke the Israelites covenant obligation to be a Holy people who worshiped only God. Many of the Israelites were killed, and the possession of their inheritance was delayed until they repented and separated themselves from the daughters of Moab.

The story of Naboth’s vineyard is found in 1 Kings 21:1-16. Naboth owned a vineyard next door to the palace of Ahab and Jezebel. Ahab wanted the vineyard for a vegetable garden. Naboth would not sell his vineyard because it was the inheritance of his fathers and God forbid the sale of land He had given to a family by covenant. Jezebel breaks the covenant relationship by having Naboth falsely accused of blasphemy. Naboth, the heir, is stoned and Ahab takes possession of the inheritance, Naboth’s vineyard.

The story of Jezebel was related under the heading of “Personification” above. The fact that Jezebel murdered the true prophets of God is found in 1 Kings 18:4, 13 and 2 Kings 9:7. Paul tells us in the book of Romans that the Jews were the inheritors of the oracles of God.

Romans 3:1-2

1 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?

2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.

Like Balaam before her, Jezebel seduces the Israelites into fornication and idol worship. This destroys their covenant relationship with God. Then she kills the true prophets who are the heirs of the oracles of God. Finally she establishes the false prophets of Baal and Ashtoreth in Israel, stealing the inheritance of the word of God.

Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream: Head of gold.

The head of gold represented Babylon, which birthed sorcery and the worship of Ishtar (goddess of love and fertility). It, therefore, had a natural association with Jezebel and the Serpent.

Daniel’s Dream: Lion.

The lion was associated with the Empire of Babylon, the birthplace of sorcery and the worship of Ishtar (goddess of love and fertility). It, therefore, had a natural association with Jezebel and the Serpent.

Canaanite People Group: Hivite.

Hivite means a villager, life giving, and eve the first woman. So the Hivites are associated with the Serpent/Jezebel class of spirits because of their feminine nature.

Midianite Prince: Hur.

Hur means to bore, the crevice of a serpent, the cell of a prison, and a hole. It comes from a root that means to blanch, wax pale, white linen, and white. So there was an obvious association with the Serpent and Jezebel who tries to pass herself off as virtuous and pure (clean and white) even though she satisfies every desire of her flesh.

Amorite King: Debir, king of Eglon.

Debir means oracle and Eglon means vituline (calf). The calf was commonly used as an idol. Therefore, Debir, king of Eglon, is associated with Jezebel who championed the false prophets and idol worship in Israel.

Philistine City: Ekron.

Ekron means eradication. It is associated with Jezebel who tried to eradicate the prophets of God.

Giant: Ishbibenob.

Ishbebenob means his dwelling is in Nob, and Nob means fruit. It is associated with the Serpent who used the forbidden fruit to tempt Eve.

Opposes: Prophets.

Jezebel opposed and tried to eradicate the true prophets of God. This is the battle of self-will versus righteousness (God’s will).

Mountain Goats

These mountain goats are part of a herd that ranges along the Continental Divide in Colorado. They were used for the banner of the "Area Indoctrination Briefing" because of the obvious association of Satan with goats.
